
Cessnock Fire and Rescue logs 73 callouts in April amid busy public holiday period
Cessnock Fire and Rescue has responded to 73 calls for assistance throughout April, bringing its total incident responses for 2026 so far to 250.
The month, which included multiple public holidays, proved particularly demanding for firefighters, with three house fires occurring within a three-day period.
Overall incidents attended during April included:
- 5 building fires
- 32 rubbish and yard fires
- 1 bush or grass fire
- 1 tree falling onto a house
- 2 car fires
- 4 motor vehicle accidents
- 2 assists to ambulance services
- 24 fire alarm activations
- 2 hazardous material incidents
Authorities are reminding residents to take precautions ahead of winter, particularly by ensuring smoke alarms are working properly. Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) offers free smoke alarm checks and replacements, with residents able to arrange a home fire safety visit through their website or by contacting their local station.
Firefighters are also urging the community to stay alert as cooler months typically bring an increase in residential fire risk.
