Cessnock man assaulted with bat and axe in failed robber
A 27-year-old man was assaulted with weapons during a violent attempted robbery on Cessnock Road in Weston, near Cessnock, last week.

Police were called to Cessnock Road at around 4.15pm on Friday 15 August, after reports of an assault involving several young males.
When officers arrived, they were told the 27-year-old victim had been involved in an altercation with an unknown male before a group of others joined in and began assaulting him.
During the attack, the man was allegedly struck with a bat and an axe. The group then demanded his necklace and cigarettes but left the scene without taking anything.
The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene but did not require hospitalisation.
Detectives from Hunter Valley Police District have since launched an investigation and are appealing to the public for assistance.
“Police urge anyone with dashcam footage from the area to come forward,” officers said in a statement.
