Maitland City Council Scores Big with $1M Upgrades to Cooks Square Park”

Maitland City Council has clinched a major victory for local football enthusiasts with a whopping $1 million injection into Cooks Square Park in East Maitland.

Fully backed by the Australian Government, the park’s training pitch has been revamped into a full-sized field, boasting brand-new irrigation systems, fencing, and floodlighting up to training standards.

“This enhancement guarantees Maitland Football Club access to a top-tier facility, both now and in the foreseeable future,” affirms Mayor Philip Penfold. “The council takes immense pride in bolstering this rapidly expanding club by delivering crucial upgrades to their home grounds.”

Federal Member for Paterson, Meryl Swanson MP, echoes Mayor Penfold’s sentiments, stating, “I’m thrilled to have secured the funding that has facilitated essential enhancements to Cooks Square Park, elevating it to a premier hub for local football.”

“This $1 million investment transcends mere infrastructure; it embodies our dedication to nurturing the health and wellness of our Maitland football community,” Swanson continues. “It marks a pivotal milestone in our mission to enhance Maitland’s sporting venues, ensuring modern facilities and greater opportunities for our athletes to excel.”

Maitland FC President Steve Good expresses eagerness to utilize the upgraded training pitch, highlighting its newfound capacity to accommodate Junior Development League children alongside Premier Youth League Boys and Girls. “It’s a game-changer for our club’s developmental pathways,” he enthuses.

With Council identifying further avenues for improvement at Cooks Square Park, collaboration with the Member for Paterson and both state and federal governments remains ongoing to explore future funding opportunities.
