About 2:00pm on Sunday 12th February 2023, Wallsend Fire and Rescue and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 377 Minmi were called to the Newcastle Link Road in Wallsend after numerous reports of a bush fire.
Upon arrival crews extinguished the fire which had spread about 20 metres south from the shoulder of the Westbound lane into the bushland.
Lane 1 of 2 was partially closed for Fire Fighting operations with the assistance of Traffic and Highway Patrol Command – NSW Police Force.
Whilst extinguishing the fire, crews located a emergency flare situated in the bush which was believed to be the ignition source of the fire.
