Emergency Services Personnel Rescue Car Plunged off Pokolbin Cliff

Emergency crews were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident at Pokolbin earlier yesterday afternoon. The incident involved a car which had plunged off a cliff and was noticed by passersby. This is not the first time emergency services have been called to this lookout for the same reason, but the vehicle had not been confirmed as the same as before, and therefore needed to be investigated.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service was also called to the scene but was unable to assist due to poor visibility. As a result, a rescue team, comprising of volunteers from VRA Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance, NSW Police Force, Pokolbin RFS, and other emergency service personnel, was dispatched to the scene.

The team, which was vertically accredited, set about preparing their equipment to descend the cliff face to reach the car, which was approximately 70 meters down. Once they reached the vehicle, they confirmed that there were no persons inside. They then proceeded to prepare the system for ascending.

A short time later, the haul team had all members safely at the top of the cliff, and the emergency services personnel began to pack up and head home. This job required the expertise and teamwork of no less than 15-20 emergency service personnel on the scene.

Thankfully, there were no casualties, and the emergency services personnel were able to successfully complete their rescue mission
