HEALTH HAZZARD – HOT SPOT RESIDENTS TRAVEL TO NEWCASTLE FOR COVID TESTS

South West Sydney is in the early stages of what could be the worst health crisis the state has ever seen. Thousands of people have been queing in popup tests sites waiting up to 5 hours to get a test and some people are driving away without being tested.

The NSW Health Minister has told people to travel to other testing sites to get tested faster. The people have listened and are driving as far as Newcastle to get a test and a little getaway before they are forced back into 14 days quarantine.

Local Member for Wallsend Sonia Hornery has been inundated with phone with calls and messages from the public and Health Care workers reporting that people from South West Sydney are traveling to John Hunter Hospital for a COVID-19 test to avoid long queues in South West Sydney.

Sonia Hornery MP has written to the Health Minister Brad Hazzard to urgently increase the number of testing sites in South West Sydney to stop people traveling to Newcastle and the Hunter for a test and potentially spreading the virus here in the Hunter Region.

Queensland has declared South West Sydney a hotspot and is refusing entry to people from those areas into Queensland. Whilst the Northern Territory has declared all of Sydney a hot spot. The NSW Government is yet to recognize the seriousness of the situation.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian says NSW residents need to accept ‘we are living in a pandemic’ and has insisted the state ‘can’t shut down every time we have a cluster’.
