Heroic Doctor Sacrifices Himself to Save Wife in Tragic Crocodile Attack – A Story of Bravery and Heartbreak
Newcastle Doctor Identified as Victim in Fatal Crocodile Attack
A tragic incident occurred over the weekend in Queensland’s Far North, where an Australian father was killed by a crocodile. The victim has been identified as Dr. David Hogbin, a respected physician from New South Wales. Yahoo News has confirmed his identity through the Windale Medical Centre in Lake Macquarie, where he was recently employed.
Dr. Hogbin was visiting the area with his family when he slipped on the banks of the Annan River near Cooktown at around 2:10 p.m. on Saturday. A 4.9-meter crocodile reportedly attacked him after his fall.
On Tuesday, police confirmed that human remains were found in a crocodile that was shot and killed on Monday. The crocodile was located four kilometers upstream from where Dr. Hogbin was taken.
In a heartbreaking revelation, Dr. Hogbin’s final act was one of selflessness. His wife, Jane, clarified to news.com.au that contrary to earlier reports suggesting he was fishing, the family was walking on a pathway along a 15-meter-high riverbank when a portion of the bank gave way, causing him to fall into the river. Despite his efforts, the conditions, worsened by recent rain, prevented him from escaping.
As Jane attempted to rescue him, she began slipping into the river herself. In his final moments, Dr. Hogbin made the tragic decision to let go of her arm, knowing she was his only chance of survival. Moments later, he disappeared from sight.
