HUNTER COVID-19 NIGHTLY UPDATE 27/03/2020

TOTAL NUMBER OF CASES IN AUSTRALIA

Tonight in Australia there are 3,143 cases of Covid-19. 170 people have recovered. 13 people have died. There has been no new deaths today.

TOTAL NUMBER OF PEOPLE NSW HOSPITALS

In NSW there are 62 people receiving hospital treatment at home. There are 53 people in hospitals wards. There is 16 people in the ICU.

TOTAL NUMBER OF HUNTER NEW ENGLAND CASES

As at 8pm, Thursday, 26 March 2020, an additional 18 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed since our update yesterday.

This brings the total number of Hunter New England confirmed cases to 142.

The Hunter New England curve is continuing to rise steady today and is not showing any signs of easing.

HOW THEY BECAME INFECTED

The main driving factor is people returning from overseas. Cases from known contacts according the HNE has gone down by two. Community transmission of COVID is up by two cases from yesterday.

CASES BY AGE

Cases by age is concerning for the HNE as more than half the cases are in older people over 60 years old.

CASES BY LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

Last but not least is cases by LGA, tonight we have only included Hunter cases and not New England cases in this chart. Lake Macqurie and Newcastle have the most cases.

FINAL THOUGHT

In conclusion cases are still rising and have not peaked. Community transmission is low but testing for community transmission has also been low.
