In a major victory for fair pay in the Hunter region, around 110 labour hire workers at Bengalla mine in Muswellbrook will now receive equal pay to their full-time counterparts.
The workers, employed by CoreStaff and Skilled Workforce, have long been doing the same jobs as direct mine employees but for significantly lower wages. Thanks to new Same Job, Same Pay orders, these workers will now receive a pay increase of $30,000 to $50,000 per year—a life-changing boost for them and their families.
This outcome is being celebrated as a massive win for fairness, made possible by the efforts of Mining & Energy Union members who fought to ensure labour hire workers receive equal treatment. The decision reinforces the push to close pay gaps across the mining industry, ensuring that all workers are paid fairly for the work they do.
