Kurri Kurri to host moving and patriotic Field of Honour tribute on Anzac Day

Clayton Barr MP, member for the NSW electorate of Cessnock, has praised the efforts of Towns with Heart and the Coalfields History Association for their moving Anzac Day tribute. The Field of Honour will be on display at Kurri Kurri Cemetery, local memorial gardens and walls, and Rotary Park, with each resting place for a returned veteran marked with a flag.

In addition to the Field of Honour, the River of Poppies will be on display at Col Brown Rotary Park, flowing down from the big Kookaburra. More than 3000 poppies, representing every member of the defence forces who enlisted from the Kurri Kurri district, have been knitted or crocheted by local craftspeople.

The River of Poppies will be available for viewing from dawn to mid-afternoon on Anzac Day, with the opportunity for people to purchase poppies in memory of loved ones. Other fundraising merchandise will also be available at the event.

Volunteers from Coalfields Local History Association will be on hand at Kurri Kurri Cemetery to assist with identifying locations and other information. Barr thanked all the volunteers for their efforts in organizing the event.
