Macquarie Hills, NSW – A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to suffocate a 71-year-old man in a disturbing domestic-related incident in Lake Macquarie.
The alleged attack occurred around 10:30am on Tuesday, 22 April, at a residence in Macquarie Hills. Police allege the younger man attempted to strangle or suffocate the elderly man, who is known to him.
The 71-year-old managed to leave the scene and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
Following a police investigation by officers from Lake Macquarie Police District, the 35-year-old suspect was arrested early this morning (Wednesday 23 April) at a home on Taranaki Place.
He was taken to Belmont Police Station, where he was formally charged with attempting to strangle/suffocate with intent to murder (domestic violence-related).
The accused was refused bail and is set to appear in Belmont Local Court on Thursday, 24 April 2025.
Police are continuing inquiries.
