Magpie Sparks Bushfire – Hunter Valley

You all seen the singing magpie last week, mimicking the sirens of fire trucks in Newcastle, now it appears magpies are starting fires as well.

Around 5:40pm on the 14th of January, it’s believed a magpie was feasting on a dead flying fox which had attached itself to power line insulators which caused the power lines to arc, as a result of the arc bush was set alight near Cessnock in the Hunter Valley.

The fire spread pretty quickly burning almost 1ha of bushland before crews extinguished the flames and completely blacked out the fire.

Crews will return to site tomorrow, morning to ensure there are no hotspots.
