An important message from Maitland City Council
Unfortunately due to the current and forecast weather conditions, the planned 9.00pm New Year’s Eve Fireworks display in Maitland has been cancelled.
We had hoped that we might be able to proceed, but following a meeting with representatives from Fire and Rescue NSW, the Rural Fire Service and our pyrotechnicians this morning we collectively decided that the risk of proceeding with the display was too great.
Planning for New Year’s Eve started early in the year, and we committed to the fireworks long before the conditions we are currently experiencing took hold, so we wanted to offer every opportunity to proceed, if the weather conditions had been favourable.
We will still be going ahead with our other planned activities from 5.00pm – 8.30pm in the Riverside Car Park, which includes free family amusements, live music, face painting, food stalls, kids disco, craft activities and free photobooth so we encourage everyone to come along, join together and celebrate.
