Newcastle, Friday 25 April 2025 — A man has been arrested as police continue to investigate the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man at Bar Beach earlier this week.
Emergency services were called to the Memorial Drive carpark around 11:40pm on Wednesday (23 April), where they found the victim with a gunshot wound. NSW Ambulance paramedics were unable to revive him, and he died at the scene.
Police believe a fight broke out in the carpark before a white SUV arrived. A man reportedly exited the vehicle armed with a firearm, opened fire, and fled in the same SUV.
Detectives from Newcastle City Police District, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, have launched an investigation.
Around 11:20am today (Friday), a 22-year-old man was arrested at Newcastle Police Station. He is currently assisting with inquiries. No charges have been laid at this stage, and it remains unclear if he is the alleged shooter.
