A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an alleged violent domestic incident in Rutherford earlier this month.
Police were called to a home on March 5 after reports that a man had forced entry into the residence before allegedly assaulting and threatening a woman known to him. A member of the public who attempted to intervene was also allegedly assaulted before the suspect fled the scene before police arrived.
An investigation was launched by officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District, assisted by the Hunter Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team (DVHROT). Following extensive inquiries, officers—alongside the Northern Region Operational Support Group—attended a home in Telarah at 10:40 AM today, where they arrested the suspect.
The man was taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with multiple offences, including:
- Contravening a prohibition/restriction in an AVO
- Stalking/intimidation with intent to cause fear or physical harm
- Aggravated break and enter and committing a serious indictable offence
- Destroying or damaging property (domestic violence-related)
- Common assault (domestic violence-related)
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
A revocation of parole warrant was also executed.
He was refused bail and appeared before Maitland Local Court today.
Authorities continue to crack down on high-risk offenders, with police urging anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek assistance through support services or by contacting authorities.
