Simon James McGrath, remains in custody after being charged with serious child sexual offences, including two counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10 and indecent assault of a person under 16.
The charges have been certified by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), meaning they have been formally assessed and are likely to proceed to a higher court for trial.
McGrath appeared via audio-visual link in Newcastle Local Court on 21 May 2025. The case is next scheduled for a committal mention on 18 June 2025, where the court will consider whether the matter should be committed for trial in the District Court.
He has not applied for bail, which was formally refused.
