Emergency services were called to a rural property near Maitland in the Hunter Valley around 1:45pm on Saturday, 4 October, following reports that a man had been seriously injured by a horse.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance to attend the scene, where a man in his 50s was found suffering from significant head injuries after reportedly being kicked by the animal.
NSW Ambulance paramedics, together with the helicopter’s critical care medical team, provided urgent treatment at the scene. The man was stabilised and placed under close medical supervision before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for further care.
The extent of his injuries is not yet known. Emergency crews have praised the quick response of bystanders who provided assistance before paramedics arrived.
