Owendale Fire Breaks Containment Lines

The Owendale fire has broken containment lines on the eastern side of the fire which is inaccessible by fire crews, the air attack was unable to contain the breakout yesterday. Towns to the east of this fire should be watching this closely and preparing your fire plan.

Fire crews believe the southern containment lines are strong and will hold.

Crews will monitor the situation closely over the next few days and are currently working on plans for another backburn to protect towns east of the fire. When know more about the proposed plan we will let you know.

The weather forecast for the coming days are not as extreme as Yesterday, the next few days will see south easterly winds.

The big concern is when the winds turn back to the North West this will push the fire towards Pokolbin and even Mount View

There is a very small window of opportunity with favourable southeasterly winds to conduct a back burn over the next few days, it will be more of case weather we have enough available resources to conduct such a massive burn. Although 5mmof rain is forecast for Tuesday which will only be enough to hinder efforts.

There is no confirmed plan to backburn at this stage but the NSW RFS will be looking at every option.

Otherwise this fire will continue to burn out of control all the way to Pokolbin and Mount View.

There is no immediate threat to property of lives at this stage.
