The investigation into the Newcastle couple has been ongoing for several months, with the establishment of Strike Force Rubus by the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad earlier this year. The team has been focused on uncovering serious offenses that have taken place in the north of the state.
The Tactical Operations Unit was called in to assist with the arrests of the two individuals at the service station in Coolongolook. During the search of the vehicles, police discovered a number of items that were believed to be intended for use in an aggravated break and enter. These included housebreaking implements, as well as drugs, a firearm, and other items.
Both the man and woman were taken to Forster Police Station and charged with multiple offenses, including conspiracy to commit aggravated break and enter. The woman was also found to be in possession of a small amount of methylamphetamine, a knife, and a face covering.
The arrests have been hailed as a significant success in the ongoing efforts to tackle serious crime in the state’s north. The police have emphasized that investigations under Strike Force Rubus are still ongoing, and more arrests may be made in the future.
The individuals charged will remain in custody until their appearance in court on May 3rd. At this point, it will be up to the judicial system to determine the appropriate consequences for their alleged crimes.
