PORT STEPHENS TRAGEDY

A four year old girl has died in a kayaking accident at Port Stephens. Emergency Services were called to the scene at Mallabula Point, Mallabula, near Port Stephens around 2.30pm on Tuesday.

Emergency Services were responding to report a young girl had been pulled from the water unresponsive following a kayaking accident. Paramedics had performed CPR on the young girl but she was unable to be revived.

She was taken to John Hunter Hospital where she was formally declared dead.

“This was an incredibly distressing scene for bystanders, family members and first responders,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Mark Gardiner said.

“We need to be alert to the extreme dangers of the ocean, it only takes a split second for anyone to get into serious trouble in the water.”
