Raptor North Officers Charge Three for Extorting Cash in Alleged Threat Incident

Three individuals have been charged by Raptor North officers following an alleged detention and threat incident that took place in Newcastle last month. The incident involved a 31-year-old man who arrived at a fast food restaurant on Cowper Street in Wallsend and met with a 29-year-old man known to him. The older man was then threatened with a knife by another man who entered his vehicle and demanded cash, which resulted in the 31-year-old man escaping the vehicle.

Following extensive investigations, a 32-year-old man was arrested at Esplanade in Speers Point. Further investigations led to the execution of three search warrants at homes in Speers Point, Adamstown, and Macquarie Hills where cash amounting to $25,000, steroids, mobile phones, knuckle dusters, and suspected fraudulent documents were seized.

During the searches, a 29-year-old man was arrested in Macquarie Hills, and a 34-year-old woman was arrested in Adamstown. All three were then taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with various offenses including take/detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, and deal with the proceeds of crime.

The three individuals were refused bail and were set to appear at Newcastle Local Court today, March 10, 2023. The Raptor North officers are urging anyone with information that may assist with investigations to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
