Hunter Valley, NSW — June 11, 2025
Today marks two years since the tragic bus crash that shook the Hunter Valley and the nation, claiming 10 lives and injuring dozens more. On the night of June 11, 2023, what began as a joyful celebration at a wedding in Lovedale ended in devastation when a coach carrying guests overturned near Greta, becoming one of the worst road accidents in recent Australian history.
The crash sent shockwaves through the tight-knit communities of the Hunter, many of whom continue to grieve the loss of friends, family members, and neighbours. The victims were not just names in headlines—they were teachers, nurses, volunteers, and parents. In the aftermath, the Hunter Valley community rallied together, providing comfort, support, and strength to those affected.
A memorial was erected near the crash site to honour those who lost their lives, and it has since become a place of reflection and remembrance. Each year, loved ones gather to lay flowers, light candles, and pay tribute to lives lost too soon.
Emergency responders, hospital staff, and community volunteers who assisted that night are also being recognised for their courage and compassion in the face of overwhelming tragedy.
While investigations and court proceedings surrounding the crash have continued over the past two years, today is not about legal outcomes—it is about remembrance, healing, and unity.
As we reflect on this solemn anniversary, the message from the Hunter is clear: these lives will never be forgotten.
