Authorities have resumed the search for a 58-year-old fisherman who fell overboard during a competition off the Newcastle coast.
Emergency services were alerted around 1:35 PM yesterday (Sunday, 23 February) that the man had gone overboard at approximately 1 PM, about 55km offshore. Initial reports indicate he became entangled in fishing tackle before falling into the water.
NSW Police Marine Area Command, PolAir, Marine Rescue NSW, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter launched an extensive search, which was suspended at nightfall. Operations resumed at 8 AM today (Monday, 24 February).
Authorities continue efforts to locate the missing fisherman.
