Emergency crews are resuming their search for an elderly man feared missing after his SUV and caravan were swept into floodwaters west of Taree.
The incident occurred at Bretti Reserve on Thunderbolts Way late Saturday night when the Barnard River broke its banks. The man reportedly attempted to cross a causeway before being caught in the rising waters.
Police, SES, RFS, and PolAir conducted sweeps of the area overnight but have yet to locate the vehicle or driver. Meanwhile, 22 campers at the reserve were confirmed safe but remain isolated by floodwaters.
With waters now receding, search efforts are intensifying. Authorities continue to warn motorists never to drive through floodwaters.
