ROTHBURY | Sunday, August 3 — A multi-agency search for a woman swept away in floodwaters near Cessnock has been suspended due to poor weather and limited visibility, with efforts set to resume tomorrow.
Emergency services were called to Old North Road, Rothbury, just after 7:50pm on Saturday, after a Mini Countryman became stuck while attempting to cross floodwaters at Black Creek.
The 27-year-old driver was safely rescued and uninjured, but her 26-year-old passenger was swept away in the fast-moving water.
Crews from NSW Police, Rural Fire Service, and VRA Rescue NSW scoured the area throughout Sunday. The search was halted around 4:30pm due to worsening conditions and will recommence from 8am Monday (4 August).
Authorities continue to urge residents to stay clear of floodwaters and damaged infrastructure.
