A high-speed police pursuit on the Mid North Coast has ended in dramatic fashion, with a 23-year-old man now facing a string of serious charges after allegedly ramming a police vehicle.
The chaos unfolded around 8 AM on Friday when highway patrol officers spotted a stolen Toyota utility speeding northbound on the Pacific Highway near Kundabung. Attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful, with the driver allegedly refusing to pull over, forcing police to initiate a pursuit. However, due to safety concerns, officers were forced to call it off.
Moments later, the stolen ute was seen again near Collombatti—this time taking a dangerous detour onto the railway corridor. In an almost cinematic getaway attempt, the vehicle sped north along the train tracks for around 5km before rejoining the road at Browns Crossing. The chase continued onto the Pacific Highway at Warrell Creek, where police successfully deployed road spikes, bringing the ordeal to an end.
But not before things took a violent turn—police allege the suspect deliberately rammed an unmarked police car during the pursuit. Thankfully, no officers were injured in the collision.
After his arrest, the 23-year-old was subjected to roadside tests, which returned a negative result. He was then taken to Kempsey Police Station and hit with multiple charges, including speeding more than 45 km/h over the limit, using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, dangerous driving, driving with a suspended licence, and receiving stolen property.
The man was refused bail and is expected to front Parramatta Local Court today.
This shocking pursuit highlights the dangers police face daily and serves as yet another reminder of the reckless behavior some drivers engage in.
