NEWS ALERT: ARREST MADE FOLLOWING STOLEN VEHICLE INCIDENT IN LAKE MACQUARIE
LAKE MACQUARIE – local authorities have apprehended two individuals in connection with a stolen vehicle incident that unfolded yesterday (15th June 2023). The incident began when law enforcement responded to a call regarding a stolen vehicle reported at a property in Aberdare, which was traced back to a break-in at a commercial establishment in Mayfield West.
During the course of their investigation at the scene, police encountered resistance from one male suspect. Simultaneously, another male, who was already wanted for previous offenses, made a daring escape by commandeering another stolen vehicle located on the premises. The second vehicle had been stolen from a commercial site in Wickham.
Initiating a pursuit that spanned a considerable distance, law enforcement officers chased the stolen vehicle to the western side of Lake Macquarie. Eventually, the driver and passenger abandoned the vehicle, attempting to evade capture by fleeing on foot. In a display of coordinated effort, police units from Lake Macquarie, Newcastle City, and Hunter Valley formed a strategic perimeter, leading to the successful arrest of both suspects.
The 41-year-old driver now faces a total of ten charges, including two counts of Police Pursuit for driving dangerously, acquisition of ammunition in violation of a prohibition order, three counts of break and enter, driving while disqualified, unauthorized taking and driving of a conveyance, and breach of bail conditions. Meanwhile, the passenger has been charged with three offenses and has been denied bail until their scheduled court appearance today.
Of particular note is the revelation that, at the time of the offenses, the driver had already been disqualified from driving until 2073 and was in violation of strict bail conditions imposed by the District Court. Currently, the accused driver has been denied bail and is expected to appear before the court today for further proceedings.
In a related development, a search warrant was executed at the Aberdare premises, resulting in the recovery of the stolen vehicle and other pilfered items. Authorities continue to investigate potential additional offenses related to this case.
