In a recent development surrounding the fatal bus crash in the Hunter Valley region, teachers from a NSW school have come forward with concerns about the driver involved in the tragic incident. The Sydney Morning Herald has obtained a letter written by the teachers to parents, shedding light on their apprehensions regarding the driver’s conduct.
The letter, addressed to parents, states, “Dear Parents, It has come to our attention that the driver of the Hunter Valley accident was also one of the drivers who took our Year 5 students to Bathurst last week. We wanted to be transparent with you about this connection. On the trip to Bathurst, our teachers raised concerns about the driver and reported them at the end of the trip as per usual procedures. We ask staff to report anything of concern. Their concerns were not such that they felt they needed to contact us on the trip; however, we have now written to the bus company expressing our concerns and are forwarding the letter to the police who are investigating the Hunter Valley crash.”
The teachers had expressed their concerns to the bus company following the trip to Bathurst, but at the time, they did not find it necessary to contact the school. The school has taken action subsequent to the Hunter Valley crash and has formally written a letter to the bus company to convey their concerns about the driver’s conduct. The letter has also been shared with the police, who are currently conducting an investigation into the tragic incident.
This revelation raises questions about the bus company’s screening and training processes for their drivers, as well as any previous complaints or incidents involving the driver in question. The incident underscores the need for enhanced safety measures and stricter regulations within the bus transportation industry.
