In a tragic incident last month, an unlicensed teenage driver has been formally charged following a fatal crash in Lake Macquarie. The collision, which occurred on Freemans Drive, Cooranbong, resulted in the death of an 18-year-old passenger.
The driver, aged 17 at the time of the incident and now 18, was hospitalized following the crash and has since been taken into custody after attending Newcastle Police Station. He faces charges including dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
The accused has been granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in Broadmeadow Children’s Court tomorrow.
The investigation, initially led by Lake Macquarie Police District, has been taken over by specialist officers from the Hunter Crash Investigation Unit.
