Three men have been charged following an alleged copper theft that took place on Sunday night in Thornton. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 PM on June 25, 2023, when authorities responded to a business located on Glenwood Drive, Thornton, after receiving reports of stolen copper wire.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered three individuals concealed in nearby bushland. The men were found to be in possession of gloves, face coverings, cutting tools, and copper wire. Subsequently, all three suspects were arrested and transported to Maitland Police Station.
The individuals involved in the incident include one 34-year-old man and two 49-year-old men. The 34-year-old was charged with multiple offenses, including entering enclosed land without lawful excuse, property destruction, larceny, disguise with intent to commit an indictable offense, possession of suspected stolen goods, and possession of housebreaking implements. The two 49-year-old men were charged with entering enclosed land without lawful excuse, larceny, and possession of housebreaking implements.
The three accused individuals appeared before the Maitland Local Court on Monday, June 26, 2023. The 34-year-old suspect was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before the same court on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. The two 49-year-old men were also granted conditional bail and are expected to appear on Thursday, July 13, 2023.
