BREAKING:
A young woman is in critical condition after a car ploughed into a bus shelter in Lake Macquarie’s Glendale on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Main Road around 4pm, after reports that a Holden Commodore had mounted the curb and crashed directly into the shelter.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 28-year-old woman at the scene before rushing her to John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition. It’s understood she was waiting inside the shelter when the vehicle struck.
The 25-year-old male driver was also taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established, with crash investigators combing through the wreckage late into the evening as police try to piece together what caused the collision.
Lake Macquarie Police are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area to come forward.
