If you’ve been paying attention to the so-called “green revolution” in Australia, you’ve probably heard a lot of promises from Chris Bowen, the Minister for Climate Change and Energy. According to him, we’re on the path to a clean energy future—cheaper, more reliable, and completely powered by renewables. But there’s just one problem: none of it is working.
Let’s start with Bowen’s green hydrogen fantasy—an industry he claimed would transform Australia into a global powerhouse. Billions in taxpayer money have been thrown at hydrogen projects that have delivered nothing. Fortescue’s hydrogen dreams collapsed, Woodside’s projects were shelved, and other major players have walked away. Why? Because green hydrogen is expensive, inefficient, and completely unviable without massive government subsidies. Bowen sold Australians a fantasy, and now, the industry is in free fall.

Then there’s the electric vehicle (EV) debacle. Bowen set targets to have 89% of new car sales be EVs by 2030, but we’re nowhere near that. Australians simply aren’t buying them. Why? Because they’re expensive, unreliable, and impractical for long distances. Charging infrastructure is a joke, and the government is actively punishing people who drive petrol cars with new emissions regulations. Instead of letting Australians choose what works for them, Bowen wants to force an EV future on people who don’t want it.
And let’s not forget offshore wind. Bowen loves to talk about offshore wind farms, but not a single offshore turbine has been built. Not one. Billions have been thrown at consultation, approvals, and environmental studies, yet not a single megawatt of offshore wind power has been delivered to the grid. Meanwhile, European countries that bet big on offshore wind are facing soaring costs, abandoned projects, and economic disaster. And we’re supposed to believe this is the future?
Which brings us to electricity prices. Remember when Labor promised you $275 cheaper electricity bills? That promise is dead. Electricity prices have skyrocketed under Bowen’s watch, and they’re only going higher. Why? Because he’s shutting down reliable coal plants without having anything to replace them. The energy grid is being destabilized, blackouts are looming, and Australians are paying the price—literally.
So, what’s the takeaway here? Bowen’s green energy plan is a colossal failure. Billions wasted. No offshore wind. No cheap power. No EV revolution. Just soaring costs, broken promises, and a government more interested in virtue-signaling than actually delivering results.
Australians deserve better.
