Tucker Carlson’s virtual appearance at the Australian Freedom Conference in Newcastle has sent the left into a complete meltdown. The event, hosted by the United Australia Party, featured Carlson speaking live from the U.S. about Donald Trump’s landslide victory and the global fight for freedom. But instead of engaging with the ideas, left-wing activists and media figures have reacted with their usual outrage, calling his presence an “insult” and demanding he be silenced.
One of the loudest critics was Newcastle activist Sarah Smith, who attended the conference to “confront hate speech” before being escorted out. She later wrote a piece for the Newcastle Herald, framing the event as dangerous and claiming Newcastle rejected Carlson’s views. But judging by the reaction online, plenty of people in Newcastle welcomed Carlson’s speech.
The Newcastle Herald’s Facebook post about Smith’s protest was flooded with comments, many cheering her on but others questioning why the left always tries to shut down voices they disagree with. One commenter raged, “His presence in Newcastle was an insult to every person who believes in equality and human rights!”—as if allowing free speech is somehow an attack on democracy.
The reaction to Carlson’s speech is just another example of how the left can’t handle differing opinions. Instead of debating ideas, they want to censor and de-platform. But the fact that so many people turned up to hear him, and that his words are still making waves, shows that their attempts to silence conservative voices aren’t working. If anything, it only proves how desperate they are to keep their grip on the narrative.
