Chaos erupted at Ravensworth Railway Station today after a woman was allegedly stabbed in a shocking midday attack.
Emergency services rushed to the scene around 1:30 PM following reports of a violent altercation between two train passengers. Police say the dispute ended with a woman in her 30s being stabbed in the ribs.
Paramedics treated the woman on-site before airlifting her to John Hunter Hospital in serious condition.
Not long after, police confronted a 35-year-old man allegedly armed with a knife. Officers deployed a Taser and OC spray to subdue him. He was assessed by paramedics before being taken to hospital, where he remains under police guard.
Authorities confirmed the pair are believed to know each other.
A crime scene has been established on the train as investigations continue. Police are urging anyone with information or footage of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
