
Maitland Councils 7.25% rate increase is unacceptable during a pandemic
Maitland Mayor Baker will be remembered for her heartless rate rise during a pandemic which will cause more financial stress on family’s across the City of Maitland who are already doing it tough. ALP and Liberal Councillors all voted to rise rates by a huge 7.25% whilst allocating funds to the struggling art gallery which has a shortfall of $32,000 per week. Mayor Baker said the arts gallery was vitial for tourism. Deputy Mayor Penfold opposed the rate rise along with other independent councillors, unfortunately they were out voted.
