COVID CASH FAST TRACKS ROAD WORKS AT CESSNOCK

Road works on Leggetts Drive at Mulbring, east of Cessnock will be fast-tracked as part of the NSW Government’s economic stimulus package.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Catherine Cusack said stimulus funding from the $2.3 billion COVID-19 package announced in March has allowed Transport for NSW to bring forward and deliver projects in addition to its planned program of work.

“As a result of this package, $825,000 has been allocated to rebuilding and resurfacing road works on Leggetts Drive which is an important road connecting the M1 Pacific Motorway to Cessnock and surrounding areas in the Hunter Region.

“About 7000 vehicles use this road each day so these upgrades will make journeys smoother and safer for all road users,” Ms Cusack said.

“The stimulus funding has meant we can get cracking on the road works ahead of schedule which will also help to support jobs and businesses as the local community recovers from COVID-19.”

Cessnock City Council has been engaged to deliver the road rebuilding works which will be carried out daily between 7am and 4pm and take three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The final road resurfacing on the Leggetts Drive project will be carried out later in the year.
