Beaumont Street in Hamilton has been closed to traffic following a collision earlier today, just before the afternoon peak, causing significant disruptions near the busy Hamilton Train Station.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11:35 am on Thursday, 26 September 2024, after reports of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Beaumont and Hudson Streets.
Police reported that a car, driven by a 66-year-old man, allegedly struck a 73-year-old pedestrian. The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene and transported to John Hunter Hospital with head injuries. He is currently in stable condition.
The driver was also taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing, a standard procedure following such incidents.
Newcastle City Police District officers have established a crime scene, and the Crash Investigation Unit is examining the circumstances surrounding the collision. Beaumont Street remains closed, with traffic diversions in place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area as delays are expected to worsen during peak hours.
