With Christmas just around the corner, Cessnock City Council is inviting local businesses and shoppers to embrace the festive spirit with two exciting competitions designed to brighten the community and support local trade.
Christmas Business Display Competition
Local businesses across the Cessnock Local Government Area (LGA) are encouraged to decorate their shopfronts with festive displays. Cessnock City Mayor Daniel Watton will judge the entries, awarding prizes of $500, $300, and $200 gift cards, along with trophies for first, second, and third place winners.
Shopper Participation Encouraged
Shoppers can join the celebration by visiting participating businesses, snapping festive selfies or photos in front of Christmas displays, and sharing them on social media using the hashtag #SupportLocalCessnock. The top three participants promoting their favorite displays will win gift cards valued at $200, $100, and $50.
Mayor Watton expressed his excitement about the initiative, stating:
“The Christmas Business Display Competition offers a wonderful opportunity to showcase your holiday spirit and win great prizes, while brightening up our streets for the season. Whether you’re a business owner or a local shopper, this is a wonderful way to share the Christmas spirit, support each other, and win some great prizes.”

- Deadline: Both competitions close at 5 PM on Friday, 13 December 2024.
