Mayor Daniel Watton has released his regular monthly mayoral update, highlighting key events and initiatives from 16 April to 21 May 2025. The update showcases the Mayor’s continued focus on community engagement, infrastructure, education, and strategic planning for the Cessnock Local Government Area (LGA).

- Sat on the Mayoral Scholarship Selection Panel (16 Apr)
- Honoured ANZAC Day commemorations across the region (25 Apr)
- Presented the 2025 Mayoral Scholarships (15 May)
- Celebrated Delma Whyte’s Freeman of the City honour (7 May)
- Education & Youth Engagement:
- Opened the new Kurri Kurri Study Hub (1 May)
- Met with Sonia Sharpe to discuss local youth services (14 May)
- Participated in the Kuway Uwayka Yarning Circle Opening at Millfield Public School (13 May)
- Infrastructure & Development:
- Opened the refurbished Cessnock Netball Courts (1 May)
- Attended the Cessnock Leagues Club Groundbreaking Ceremony (13 May)
- Held strategic meetings on development contributions and growth projects (8 & 14 May)
- Regional Advocacy:
- Hosted the Committee for the Hunter in Cessnock (5 May)
- Participated in the HCC/HTP Regional Reference Group in Newcastle (5 May)
