In a dramatic early morning bust, Hunter Valley Highway Patrol officers have nabbed a 25-year-old learner rider recklessly speeding through a quiet residential street in Kurri Kurri.
Acting on a tip-off from a concerned Crime Stoppers caller, officers were deployed around 5:25am on Monday, 26 May, where they clocked a motorcycle flying through the neighbourhood at a staggering 114km/h — more than double the 50km/h speed limit.
The rider, who holds only a learner licence, was pulled over on the spot. Police wasted no time issuing a crushing $2,959 fine, six demerit points, and a six-month licence suspension. As he was also the registered owner, police seized the number plate and cancelled the bike’s registration for three months.
Authorities have praised the local resident who reported the dangerous rider and are urging the public to continue reporting reckless behaviour on our roads.
“This outcome shows how vital community information can be in keeping our roads safe,” police said in a statement.
