Brett Button, the bus driver involved in the tragic June 2023 Hunter Valley crash, will be sentenced tomorrow in Newcastle Local Court. Before the sentencing, families of the ten victims will read their emotional victim impact statements, confronting Button about the devastating impact of the crash, which occurred after a wedding at Wandin Estate Winery.
Among those who lost their lives were Nadene McBride and her daughter Kyah, Kane Symons, Andrew and Lynan Scott, Zach Bray, Angus Craig, Darcy Bulman, Tori Cowburn, and Rebecca Mullen.
Button faces numerous charges, including dangerous and negligent driving causing death and injury. Many of the victims were members of the Singleton Roosters Australian Rules Football Club, a community deeply affected by the tragedy.
The sentencing and the emotional testimony will be significant steps in the legal process, offering the families a chance to share their pain and seek justice for their loved ones. The Hunter Valley community, still in mourning, will closely follow the court’s decision
