Stabilisation Work Underway: Newcastle City Council has commenced stabilisation work on the embankment above two key areas along Shortland Esplanade. The first section near Nobbys SLSC has completed ‘soil nailing,’ a method involving drilling steel bars horizontally into the embankment to reinforce and strengthen the area. This technique is less environmentally impactful than other methods.
Next Steps: Following soil nailing, retaining walls will be installed to stabilise the embankment further, and the area will be remediated with coastal-loving seedlings.
Traffic Impact: This project may temporarily affect traffic flow and parking availability. and traffic control will be in place.
