Fire investigators are probing a suspicious blaze that broke out early Wednesday morning at the Lake Macquarie City Council Administration Centre in Speers Point.
Newcastle Fire Command reports that emergency crews were dispatched to the scene on Main Road around 4:00 AM, where fires were discovered on both the ground floor and the first level of the building.
The incident prompted a significant emergency response, with fire crews from Cardiff, Teralba, Tingira Heights, Charlestown, and Holmesville attending alongside specialist units. Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 5:15 AM and are now ventilating the premises.

Council CEO Morven Cameron announced that staff from the Administration Centre will work from home, and the facility is temporarily closed to walk-in customers. The council’s Customer Service line is currently down, with efforts underway to restore it.
