The federal government allocates a staggering $100 million to bolster the World Health Organisation’s efforts in pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response at time where ordarniary Australians are struggling to put food on the table.
Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong unveiled a funding package during the second day of the prestigious UN General Assembly, in the wake of a significant discussion focused on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (PPPR).
Under this initiative, the government pledged $75 million in voluntary core funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) over a span of five years, along with an additional $25 million allocated for the WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme.
This move precedes the eagerly awaited announcement by the Prime Minister regarding an inquiry into Australia’s COVID-19 response.
