Yesterday at approximately 5 am (Tuesday, March 26, 2024), authorities were alerted to the alleged theft of a Chevrolet Silverado utility from an address in Cams Wharf.
Shortly thereafter, the stolen vehicle was discovered ablaze in Belmont South, with firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW quickly extinguishing the flames.
Responding to the incident, General Duties police, alongside the Dog Unit and Operation UTAH, cordoned off the vicinity of a nearby golf course and conducted a comprehensive investigation.
Following an extensive search operation, a 30-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were apprehended in bushland and subsequently transported to Belmont Police Station.
The male suspect faces a total of 35 charges, including multiple counts of shoplifting, driving a motor vehicle during disqualification period, obtaining property by deception, possession of suspected stolen goods, and various counts related to break-ins, property destruction, and theft.
Meanwhile, the female suspect has been charged with seven offences, encompassing dishonestly obtaining property by deception, burglary, property destruction, unauthorized vehicle operation, and larceny.
Both individuals have been denied bail and are set to appear before Belmont Local Court today (Wednesday, March 27, 2024), where further legal proceedings will take place. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
