News Update: Man Charged in Alleged Drink-Driving Incident Near Newcastle
In a recent incident near Newcastle, a man has been charged following an alleged drink-driving offense. Last night, police stationed on Maitland Road, Mayfield, reported that around 10:45 pm (Tuesday, March 26, 2024), a vehicle allegedly sideswiped an unmarked police car before continuing along Maitland Road without stopping.
Shortly after, members of the Newcastle City Proactive Crime Team intercepted the vehicle on Woodstock Street, Mayfield. Upon conducting a roadside breath test, the 49-year-old driver reportedly registered a positive reading. He was subsequently arrested and transported to Newcastle Police Station, where a breath analysis allegedly confirmed a high blood alcohol content of 0.167.

The Shortland resident has been issued a Court Attendance Notice for driving with a high-range PCA and failing to provide particulars to the other driver involved.
