Emergency services were called to a domestic dispute between a Merriwa man and woman on Sunday which has left the woman in a coma.
It is alleged that during the fight that the woman struck and bit the man before the man slapped her and she fell backwards and hit her head on the ground.
The man then called emergency services and the lady was treated at the scene for head injuries and taken to John Hunter Hospital where she was placed into an induced coma.
The man was treated for bruising to his cheek and a cut to his hand at the scene and arrested 24 hours later and charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and breaching an apprehended domestic violence order.
