Ongoing Investigation into Lake Macquarie Shooting Results in Charges Against Two Individuals
Lake Macquarie, 20 June 2023 — Two individuals have been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into a shooting incident that occurred earlier this year in Lake Macquarie.
On 18 May 2023, at approximately 4:05 a.m., emergency services responded to a residence on Flame Street, Gateshead, following reports of gunshots. A 41-year-old man was discovered with a gunshot wound to his leg. It is believed that the man and his family were asleep when they were startled by two loud noises, resulting in the man being injured by a projectile that entered through the front window. The victim received medical treatment for his non life-threatening injuries at a nearby hospital.
Lake Macquarie Police District officers, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics, swiftly arrived at the scene and established a crime scene. Lake Macquarie Detectives took charge of the investigation into the shooting.
Yesterday, on 19 June 2023, after thorough inquiries, detectives, supported by specialist police, executed a search warrant at a residence on the Pacific Highway in Doyalson North at approximately 8:45 a.m. During the search, authorities seized a Mitsubishi Magna, clothing, and electronic devices that are deemed relevant to the investigation. These items will undergo further examination as part of the ongoing probe.
As a result of the search operation, a 38-year-old man was apprehended at the scene and transported to Wyong Police Station. Additionally, later in the morning, a 45-year-old woman was arrested at Toronto Police Station in connection with the same incident.
Both individuals have been charged with discharge of a firearm with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and attempted special aggravated break, enter, and commit a serious indictable offense with the intention to inflict grievous bodily harm.
The pair were denied bail, with the woman having appeared before Toronto Local Court yesterday. The man is scheduled to appear before Wyong Local Court today, 20 June 2023.
The investigation into this matter remains active, and authorities continue to make progress in determining the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.
