Flood Watch Alert for Multiple Regions in New South Wales Including Cessnock and Singleton.

A Flood Watch has been issued for various areas including the Mid North Coast, Wollombi Brook, Sydney and its surroundings, the South Coast, and parts of the North West, effective from 3:45 pm EDT, Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Anticipated Flood Conditions:

  • Hawkesbury Nepean River: Minor to major flooding is expected from late Friday onwards.
  • Mid North Coast, Greater Sydney Region, South Coast, and North West: Minor to moderate flooding is likely.

A coastal trough is projected to intensify, potentially forming a low-pressure system between Friday and Saturday, moving towards the south coast by late Saturday. This system is anticipated to bring widespread rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding in the mentioned areas from early Saturday.

Affected Catchments:

Several catchments are forecasted to experience flooding, including Bellinger and Kalang Rivers, Nambucca River, Wollombi Brook, Lower Hunter River, Upper Nepean River, Hawkesbury and Lower Nepean Rivers, Upper Coxs River, Colo River, Macdonald River, Northern Sydney, Southern Sydney, Parramatta River, Cooks River, Georges and Woronora Rivers, Illawarra Coast, Shoalhaven River, St Georges Basin, Clyde River, Moruya and Deua Rivers, Tuross River, Bega River, and Gwydir River.

Safety Measures:

Residents living or working along rivers and streams are advised to closely monitor weather forecasts and warnings. They should be prepared to evacuate to higher ground if flooding occurs.

Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites, while Severe Weather Warnings will be updated if heavy rain is forecasted or observed.
