A pedestrian was fatally struck in the Hunter Valley region this evening.
At approximately 5:45 pm on Friday, June 14, 2024, emergency services were dispatched to Aberdare Road in Aberdare, near Cessnock, following reports of a pedestrian crash.
Hunter Valley Police District officers arrived to find a man had been hit by a Hyundai iLoad van. Despite the efforts of ambulance paramedics and first responders, the man succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
The victim, believed to be in his 80s, has not yet been formally identified.
A crime scene has been established, and an investigation into the crash is ongoing. The 64-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital for mandatory testing.
